Backstory to the piece
The photo is from Don valley stadium in Sheffield in 2009 on the 360 tour. It was literally the first gig I’d ever shot and the beginning of what became my career: I’d previously shot weddings and wanted a change. I’d taken a chance and used my previous work experience in IT to apply for a short contract in a graphic design company affiliated with u2 at the time - 451 - in order to meet a guy called Steve Averill (who designed their album covers and even named U2). I met him there and asked for his advice and help getting into shooting music. He was the one who got me the accreditation to shoot! The bizarre but fortunate lens flare was due to rain a few minutes before the concert creating mist! I took so many pictures trying to frame Adam within the flare, and got two that I love, this and one more I’ll share at some point.

After I shot this gig, I next shot U2 at the Stade De France in Paris a year later. I did not shoot any others in between as my wife and I were having a tough time with the recession in Ireland. After the Paris concert with U2 in 2010, I then used the portfolio from both to get other music industry work and that eventually lead to clients like The Script, Rick Astley, Elbow, Queen and more. So to say I’m grateful for this shot is an understatement.
