Review of 2013

2013 has been a great year that has allowed me to work with many new clients and many existing ones. There have however been some highlights that stand out for me. It started at the beginning of the year with an invitation from Ennio Morricone to photograph him at multiple events across Europe. I was utterly thrilled and loved evey minute of the work. Never before have I worked with a composer, let alone one of the great legends.

Later in the Spring I got to work some more with my favourite band, The Fallen Drakes. They are a wonderful band from Ireland with a wonderful sound. Check them out on http://TheFallenDrakes.com

In Late spring I was selected by Justin Timberlake to Photograph Concerts and Events for him in Europe. Since then I have spent five days with him, ranging from his Summer tour to BBC events and The iTunes Festival.

Later today I photograph for Depeche Mode for the first time in The O2 in London. I feel very blessed to have these opportunities and plan on doing this as long as I can!

A Big Year

As many of you know this last year has held a lot of change for both myself and my family. We have moved to London, changed our entire surroundings and I have been lucky enough to get some new clients too.

I have been doing a lot of work for The Script and it has been a massive break for me as The Script are a band very much on the rise as well as being very media savvy. I have found them great to work with and very helpful to me personally and professionally as I continue to develop new contacts and connections in the UK. Another new client this year is Gary Barlow. I was very much taken by surprise when I got the call but am delighted that it has been a fantastic experience shooting him both in rehearsals and at the Royal Albert Hall. Also recently I flew back to Ireland for a day to do a shoot for an amazing band, The Fallen Drakes. There are other clients that I cant share info on yet, but its been a big year that I'm very grateful for.

Below you will find some of the photographic highlights for me from the last year..

Off Topic : Saturn!

The other day I came home late from a night out and noticed how clear the sky was. I decided to have a go at taking a picture of Saturn. With only DSLR gear I knew this was a challenge.

First of all I set up the tripod in front of the house (there was little light pollution) and put the Canon 7D on the tripod). I used the 7D over my 5D as the crop factor was a bonus for zoom. Next I hooked up my 70-200 and a 2X Canon Extender Tube. That totals 400mm, but multiplied by the crop factor, thats 640mm effective focal length.

I shot at F5.6 with 1/250 second exposure and ISO 1600, and got the image below. I used one of the many solar system browser apps for the iPad to find saturn in the first place!

Saturn

I'm pretty happy that its even possible to see the rings at all, but after doing some reading, I have discovered that if I wait for a drier night (it was quite cold and moist air that night) I will get a clearer image. I'll probably find another remote location too with no light pollution too the next time. As I said, this is very off topic, but interesting none the less!
